Board membership is a big step in most people's lives. Serving on a community non-profit board is very challenging, yet it is also very rewarding. The St. Charles County Arts Council Board of Directors directs the resources of the council. This is done through committees such as the Scholarship Committee, which selects deserving graduating high school students from St. Charles county each spring to receive a $500.00 scholarship toward their first year in college. The board also oversees the activities of the volunteersa, assists in fundraising, lends sponsorship to arts events in the county, and brings their own expertise to the table.
Generally board members do not have to be artists, but an interest in the cultural vitality of the county is expected. As with all boards, we are open to individuals with 1) wisdom about the arts, funding for the arts, and advocating for the arts, 2) willingness to lend a hand, lend time, and lend ideas, 3) and of course wealth of connections, wealth of talent to share, and just plain wealth. It is not important that each board member have all or many of these traits. Rather, we seek individuals who, with their own strengths, will help balance the board giving the council multiple strengths.
Meeting times are determined by the board and staff. We meet once a month as a board. As needed the executive board meets, usually once a quarter. Committees meet as needed by the task they are charged with.
